About Kim

I hope you will enjoy my blog. My name is Kim Quiroz and I started writing this blog to help keep myself motivated in my goal to lead a more frugal lifestyle. I soon found that my readership was quickly increasing. After two years, I have become even better at saving money and hope to share my tips with you.

I live in Cambridge, MA, with daughter Ann, a cat and a hamster. As a single mom who works part time, making sure that I approach the budget wisely is essential. I hope this blog reflects my experience, both good and bad. I have figured out what works and what doesn’t, to save you time and get the best results.

Ann is 6 and is about to finish first grade. At first, she found saving money a bit hard to understand. The switch to a single income meant we had to compromise on some things. At first, my my daughter missed going out to eat as much as we used to. Now, she is accustomed to home cooking and actually prefer it. It has also allowed me to make sure what we are eating is healthy. In fact, I’ve lost 8 pounds in the process!

Kim with daughter_218There are lots of ways I involve my child in saving and managing our budget. For instance, she gets a small allowance for tasks around the house. She enjoys saving up in her piggy bank.

I also involve my kid in the shopping. She helps me with saving coupons and using a calculator to work out our budget. When I write a grocery list, we stick to it. Kids enjoy helping fill the shopping cart with items from the list.

When I have spare time, which is not very often, I love to relax with a good book. Romance and fiction are my favorites. I also enjoy trail hiking. When it is raining outside, I enjoy sewing as a hobby but I have lots of unfinished projects!

One of the best things I have learned from developing my blog is how the whole family can be involved in financial goals. For instance, last year, we saved up for a weekend away and a trip to an amusement park. This has made us work together like a team. I feel great knowing that my daughter is learning such valuable money management skills. In fact, my child is always giving me pointers. I am pretty sure that when she grows up she will know how to manage a budget and also be a thrifty coupon saver!

Being a single mom with a kid has obviously not always been easy. However, the struggles have all been worth it. In the end, I have realized that problems and hardship can actually contain some of the most useful life lessons. I hope you will enjoy learning from my blog.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my knowledge with you! I hope it will give you some ideas for how you can make some positive changes in your lifestyle to help you to accomplish your goals.
